Heather Kennedy Zerah was born and raised in Walnut Creek, California.  She graduated from the University of Oregon with a focus on English and Fine Arts.  At age 22 her adventurous spirit led her to New York City where she began a career in the couture fashion industry.  However, her position in the business offices of a designer sportswear company left her craving a creative outlet, and she found herself drawn to the colorful inspiration boards, rich textiles, and general hustle and bustle of the company’s design and production wing.

With a renewed focus on her longstanding passion for interior design, she left the world of fashion to acquire her Masters Degree in Interior Design from the prestigious Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.  Her program at Pratt included time spent studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark and throughout greater Scandinavia.  Following graduation, she gained invaluable experience at two successful high-end residential interior design firms in Manhattan: Robert Kaner Interior Design, and DL Design Associates, LLC.  During her apprenticeship at those firms she collaborated on projects that have been featured in Modern Magazine, Home Miami, and the book 25 Apartments and Lofts.  Her experience includes work on numerous apartments, penthouses and townhouses in Manhattan and Brooklyn, as well as private homes in The Hamptons, New Jersey, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Florida.  Clients have ranged from regular individuals taking modest apartments to their ultimate potential, to celebrities and CEO’s building their dream vacation homes and retreats.

After 11 years in New York, Heather returned to the Bay Area with her husband and daughter, where she launched her design firm, Heather Zerah Interiors.
