VIRTUAL DESIGN

WHAT IS VIRTUAL DESIGN?

E-Design. Virtual Interior Design. Online Interior Design. These are all just different names for interior design and decorating services provided remotely, without ever meeting your designer in person. It's a fun, fast and affordable alternative to full-service design that allows you to update your home one room at a time, on your budget, and on your schedule. When you purchase a virtual design package through Heather Zerah Interiors, you are not buying a product. You are hiring an interior design professional who will provide you with a personalized, one-of-a-kind design scheme tailored to your unique lifestyle and space for a flat fee.

Luxury Bathroom Accessories

Virtual interior design modernizes the process of creating your dream home.

In a time when we can work remotely, shop through our phones, and achieve so much through our computers every day, why shouldn't we be able to get professional design services online too?

HOW IT WORKS:

1

SAY HELLO

Heather wants your virtual design experience to be just as personalized as it would be if you were working together in person. Introduce yourself and schedule a discovery call to describe your space and your goals in more detail. Heather will then send you a design fee proposal based on the size and complexity of your project.

2

PROVIDE DETAILS

The project officially kicks off with the Information Gathering phase. Heather will need you to provide detailed measurements and photos of your space, as well as inspiration images and info via a design questionnaire. Heather loves collaboration and client input, so the more ideas and inspiration you share, the better

3

MOOD BOARD

Based on the information and images you provide, Heather will create a mood board and preliminary floor plan that captures the overall feel of your design and sets the tone for furniture and decor selections. Upon receiving your mood board, you can choose to have a video chat, phone call, or simply share feedback via email.

4

DESIGN CREATION

With your vision and goals established, Heather will create a floor plan, 2D furniture board, and shopping list that includes links to all of the items you need for a complete, cohesive, beautiful space. If your design plan includes items that have samples (textiles, tile, etc.), Heather will mail you a sample package so you can touch and feel things yourself.

5

REVISION TIME

Heather wants you to love every detail of your new space. After reviewing the initial design, you will have one week to provide feedback and request alternates for any pieces that you don't truly love. The revision phase moves quickly because retail stock can change without warning, and Heather wants to be sure you have time to purchase everything in the design. Once the revisions are complete, Heather will email the finalized design package to you.

6

IMPLEMENTATION

With your shopping list, floor plan, and installation tips in hand, you can purchase all of the items for your room at your convenience. Once everything is in place there is just one thing left to do... ENJOY YOUR NEW SPACE!

WHAT TYPE OF SPACE ARE YOU TRANSFORMING?

SMALL SPACE DESIGN

Small Space virtual design projects typically focus on small rooms, dedicated zones, and transitional spaces in your home, including entryways, mudrooms, powder rooms, office nooks, reading nooks, breakfast nooks, and laundry rooms.

FULL ROOM DESIGN

Full Room design applies to most rooms where you want a stylish, comfortable and complete look. They include bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, your home office or study, bathrooms, and playrooms.

OPEN-PLAN DESIGN

Open-Plan design is a bit more complex, as it incorporates two or more connected zones. It includes areas where spaces merge together without physical walls or barriers. Examples include a "great room" with a conjoined kitchen, living room, and dining area, or a "master suite" with a bedroom and lounge and/or office area. By including connected spaces in one design project you can ensure a harmonious flow from zone to zone.

All Designs Include:

  • A complete personalized design tailored to your style and budget

  • Measuring guide and style questionnaire

  • Mood Board to establish design concept

  • Designer access via phone and email

  • 2D Furniture Board of selected furnishings and decor

  • Floor Plan to show how furnishings fit in the room

  • Shopping list with links to all items in the finished design

  • Messaging with Heather, feedback, and revisions throughout the process to ensure that you are completely happy with the completed design and that your needs and opinions are heard and understood

  • What is Virtual Interior Design?
Virtual interior design is a modernized, efficient process for designing interior spaces. It is ideal for anyone who wants the help and expertise of a professional designer, but is happy to save on design fees by handling the measuring, purchasing and installation themselves. If you've ever tried searching for furniture online, you know how long it can take to find items that coordinate and fit your budget, and you may give up before finding everything. A virtual interior designer, or e-designer, does the searching and sourcing for you and shows you how all the pieces go together ahead of time, so you can feel confident that everything you order will look great in your space and fit your budget.
  • What online retailers do you source from?
All furnishings and decor selected for your design will be available from commonly known online retailers. Examples include Wayfair, Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, Rejuvenation, Anthropologie, Restoration Hardware, Serena & Lily, Burke Decor, Lulu & Georgia, West Elm, The Company Store, Birch Lane, Etsy, Article, and Target. We are even happy to source items from Ikea if you live within range of a store. The retailers chosen for your design will vary depending on your budget and style.
  • How are you different from big-box e-design services like Havenly and SpaceJoy?
There are some very affordable options on the market for e-design services, but reviews of the design and ordering process through those services are mixed. With Heather Zerah Interiors you know exactly who you are hiring - a professionally trained designer with more than 15 years of experience. Heather considers her e-design clients to be just as important as her full-service clients and works to ensure that every client is 100% satisfied with the process and results. Heather is not affiliated with any retailers or manufacturers and does not receive any commissions, so she is free to source from any and all brands to ensure that your design fits your style and price range. Likewise, it means that you are able to utilize any discounts and sales that you see online when purchasing items in order to boost your savings.
  • What is your price structure?
All virtual design packages are a flat fee per space/room. You can purchase just one package, or come back as many times as you want to gradually furnish your entire home.
  • How does payment work?
Once you are certain which package you want, Heather will email you an invoice for the flat package fee, as well as a contract to ensure that you understand exactly what services and deliverable you will be receiving.
  • Do you have budget minimums?
No! Heather Zerah Interiors is happy to work with all budgets (within reason - an entire room can't be furnished for $500). However, it is worth noting that the quality and durability of furnishings can vary depending on how much an item costs. We are happy to provide you with a low cost design that will serve your current needs but may not provide you with enduring heirlooms. Likewise, we are happy to source the highest-quality items for clients whose budget permits.
  • What is the turnaround time for a project?
The design process begins when you submit all of your required pre-design materials. These include your room measurements, a design questionnaire about your style preferences, habits, and goals for the space, photos of the current space, and inspiration photos that hint at what you hope to achieve. Once Heather has all of your information, she takes up to one week to complete your mood board and schedule your optional video chat. Once that mood is agreed upon, the design process begins and typically takes another 1-2 weeks. After you have received your 2D furniture boards showing all selected items, you have one more week to request revisions and finalize the design. Overall, the design process averages 3-4 weeks.
  • What do I need to provide before starting?
Virtual Design is a collaborative process. Good results require that the client contribute ideas, inspiration, and feedback so the designer understands what you want. Before starting the design, you will need to submit full payment, a signed contract outlining the deliverables you will receive, accurate measurements of your space (instructions will be provided), photos of your space, your design questionnaire, and some inspiration. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. It is highly recommended that you spend a little time gathering images on a Pinterest board to highlight styles you like and ideas you have for your room.
  • Can I use some of my current pieces in the design?
Of course! Heather Zerah Interiors values sustainability and loves to incorporate beloved pieces into a new design. The things we collect throughout our lives are part of what make us unique and can lend a lot of personality to a room. When submitting your pre-design materials, simply include photos and dimensions of those pieces along with your room measurements and photos.
  • What if an item is out of stock when I try to order it?
As stated in the design contract, clients are encouraged to order all items within 14 days of receiving your final design package. This is because retail stock can be unpredictable, and brands frequently discontinue items to make room for new inventory. Heather Zerah Interiors cannot guarantee that all items will be available for an extended period of time. If an item is out of stock within the initial 14 day ordering period, your designer will offer alternative options free of charge. If you are ordering after the 14 day grace period, there is a fee of $50 per item for alternate sourcing.
  • How do we communicate during the design process?
Heather Zerah wants the virtual design process to be just as fun and personalized as in-person design services. At the beginning of the design process clients have the option to participate in a 30-minute phone of video chat to discuss their project, style, and design goals in detail. Throughout the rest of the process, clients are always welcome to communicate via email. We do value our personal time and believe that everyone deserves a break, so while you can email us anytime, emails will be responded to within regular business hours of 9am-5pm Monday through Friday. Should you require additional phone or video calls during the process, they can be scheduled at the fee of $50 per 30 minute call.
  • Does Heather Zerah Interiors have a signature style?
No! Variety is the spice of life. Heather sees beauty in a wide range of styles and loves to uncover the details that make every client's personal style unique. Bring on your quirks and eccentricities, and let's design a space that reflects who you are and how you live.
  • Are there any rooms that are not eligible for virtual design?
At this time we are not designing kitchens and large bathrooms remotely. These designs often require extremely detailed measurements, custom elements, and construction. While we love designing these rooms, we think the detailed nature of the job is better served by an in-person designer or contractor who can guide you through the complexities of the job. We do offer e-design services for powder rooms and small bathrooms where pieces are limited to pre-fabricated vanities, lighting, wallpaper, decorative hardware tile selections, and so forth. The goal in these projects is to help you select the items that can then be installed by you or a licensed contractor, depending on the item and complexity.
